Wow! Was the first word that came out from my mouth when I
reached The Ridge: Teja by The Sea, Batu Kawan in Penang. I never thought that
there is such a beautiful place at the end of the world. I mean the location is
quite far from hustle bustle of the city.
This is the restaurant and it is just facing to the sea. |
The entrance. everyone is so excited so do i. |
This restaurant started the operation on 31th March 2012.
Not too late to call it as the new comer, this restaurant is always talked about by customers when it comes to celebrating
special occasions like wedding, birthday party, gathering or reunion and small
anniversary celebrations.
Large dining area suitable for all special occasions. I guess we can consider it as the dance floor as well. =) |
Located next to jetty to Pulau Aman, The Ridge, a huge wood and concrete restaurant offers a variety of foods, from a la carte to set menu of local,
Korean, Western, Thai cuisine and so on. One thing is for sure, you will
certainly be spoilt for choice.
The open air restaurant concept accompanied with the smell of
sea breeze, the sound of waves, very stunning sea view and nature of this place
is very suitable for those who are seeking for peace and natural beauty. It is
sort of mind therapy place where you can enjoy the good food while watching the
sunset. Not to surprise you, from this restaurant, you can see the first Penang
Bridge, Pulau Aman and all the skyscrapers in Penang Island.
My friends and i. From right Humaira, Fifi and me, Diyana |
As a first timer and I came with my ‘pack’, we decided to
choose Thai cuisine set as our dinner, which consists of white rice, six types
of dishes, a plate of fresh fruit platter and a jar of fruit punch.
These are the foods: Tom yam Gong, Squid Tempura, Kangkung Goreng, Fresh Fruit Plater and Telur Bistik. |
If you are a big fan of Tom yam like me, you would surely
enjoy the Tom yam Gong. The authentic Thai cuisine with the blend of hot and
sour taste soup, served hot in a clay pot with the fresh prawns soaking which
add the extra sweetness flavour to the soup. I am pretty sure that you will sip the soup till the last drop of it.
Here we go, Siakap Sweet and Sour. |
Siakap Sweet and Sour is one of the highest rating favourite
dishes in Malaysia. Everyone enjoys the deep fried sea bass bath in tasty sweet
and sour sauce with colourful vegetables which give some colours and value added
to the dish. The best thing of this meal is the crunchiness and the firmness of
the fish flesh which gives extra credits to the customers to order the Siakap
Sweet and Sour.
Other than that, I would give double thumbs up to Sambal
Udang dan Petai. Everyone knows the fact that stink bean is good for our kidney
even though it produces unpleasant smell. However, you will forget about that
smell when you eat stink bean together with prawn and the delightful sambal.
The hot and sweet tastes that come from sambal and prawn juice, eating with hot
white rice, totally ‘kick’ and burst your appetite. Do not blame the chef if
you eat extra portion.
Telur Bistik or I would prefer to call it as ‘secret
omelet’. Well, since I called it secret omelet, it must have something hidden
inside. It looks just like an ordinary omelet from outside but full of
‘surprise’ inside. It is stuffed with minced meat which is cooked with sweet
and sour sauce that makes it a unique dish. Even the outside layer is already
cold, but the stuffing is still hot and delectable.
The sliced squid coated with the fluffy and foamy batter,
then deep fried in hot oil until they are slightly golden brown is the best to
describe Squid Tempura . It is served with Thai sauce dipping and it is very
palatable even you just eat it alone or make it as a snack.
For vegetable, there is none better than Kailan Goreng when
you are having Thai cuisine set. It is fried in a Chinese wok with the soy
sauce gravy which makes it a little bit salty, but you still can balance the salty taste with the white rice and other dishes. However, I would not recommend this dish
to the High Blood Pressure patients, because it might cause your disease even
worse.
Don't forget to wipe the residues at your mouth with exclusively printed tissue. |
The price range for a plate of a la carte menu is from RM0.70 up to RM80, while for set menu from RM60 to RM160.
If you have the intention to dine here, make sure you bring
enough cash money because they only accept cash.
Other than catering service, The Ridge: Teja by The Sea also
provides other services such as home stay, sport event, wedding planner, fish
trip and many more. For those who are interested to capture the memorable
events here, you do not have to worry because they equip their restaurant with
free car park, separate prayer room and clean toilet. So you do not have to
worry if you need to stay there longer.
Overall, I was satisfied with the amount of money I paid and
the food that I consumed, even though the price is quite extravagant but it is
worth the money. Definitely, I would have to say yes for my second time visit soon
because I really love the fascinating nature view, especially during the sunset.
It completely presents you the romantic scenery and it makes you feel like you
are in a romance movie.
MasyaAllah. Can you see it? How beautiful it is? no word can describe it actually. |
